BRIEF: Four of Chicago's funniest chefs throw a benefit 'roast'

Jan. 08--Four of Chicago's best, and funniest, chefs will join forces for a benefit dinner complete with a good-natured roast.

Jimmy Bannos Sr. (Heaven on Seven), John Hogan (River Roast), Tony Mantuano (Spiaggia) and Takashi Yagihashi (Slurping Turtle) will prepare a collaborative dinner, then trash each other in a "chef roast" hosted by WXRT's Lin Brehmer.

It will be a four-course, and very coarse, evening. Anyone who's seen these chefs' cooking demonstrations at the last few Chicago Gourmet fests know the gloves come off pretty quickly.

The food probably will be pretty good, too.

It all takes place from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at (the fittingly named) River Roast (315 N. LaSalle St.). Tickets are $75, and proceeds will benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Buy tickets at brownpapertickets.com.
