BRIEF: Four Cubs lead in 1st NL All-Star balloting

June 02--If Wednesday's results are any indication, the Cubs might need more space for a private plane to fly from Pittsburgh to San Diego for the July 12 All-Star Game.

The first results of the NL ballotting show that first baseman Anthony Rizzo, second baseman Ben Zobrist, third baseman Kris Bryant and shortstop Addison Russell lead their respective positions, with center fielder Dexter Fowler second among outfielders for three spots.

Rizzo leads all NL players with 874,471 votes, nearly 36,000 more than Bryce Harper of the Nationals, who leads all outfielders. Zobrist leads second baseman Daniel Murphy of the Nationals by about 244,000 votes.

Should Bryant be elected to the All-Star Game, it would mark a homecoming for him since he starred at the University of San Diego.

Fowler is less than 4,000 votes ahead of Yoenis Cespedes of the New York Mets for the second spot, with right fielder Jason Heyward a distant fourth.

Miguel Montero is third among catchers, trailing Yadier Molina of the St. Louis Cardinals and Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants.

Voting concludes on June 30, with the results announced on July 3. The Cubs conclude the first half against the Pirates at PNC Park.
