BRIEF: Former Park Ridge tutor found with child pornography: police

Dec. 18--A former tutor for middle school and high school students has been arrested after police said they found more than 1,000 images of child pornography.

Albert Galus was charged with nine counts of possession of child pornography and 16 counts of aggravated possession of child pornography, the Cook County state's attorney's office said in a statement.

Authorities began investigating Galus in December 2011 after he took his computer in for repair. A technician discovered a video of child pornography and contacted the FBI, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

A warrant executed on Dec. 21, 2011, at Galus' home in the 1000 block of Peterson Avenue in Park Ridge turned up two assault rifles, a handgun and a large amount of ammunition, officials said. Galus was arrested after police said he did not possess a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card.

Galus was arrested at his home Tuesday, according to a statement.

A Cook County judge ordered him held on $100,000 bond Wednesday.

Galus was a former chairman of the Taste of Park Ridge.
