BRIEF: Former Notre Dame RB Greg Bryant picks UAB, which won't play till 2017

Nov. 04--Former Notre Dame running back Greg Bryant's said Wednesday he has committed to play football for a school that won't have a program until January and won't play games until 2017.

Bryant said on Instagram that he has committed to the University of Alabama-Birmingham, which disbanded its program in December 2014 but is reviving it.

"Never in my life would I be thinking I would go here," Bryant wrote on the social media site. "But, the next move has to be the best move."

UAB also recently received a commitment from Clifton Garrett, a former five-star linebacker from Plainfield who played a season at LSU.

Bryant called it "strictly a business decision. Minor set back for a major comeback."

Bryant left Notre Dame in August after he was ruled academically ineligible to play this season. He initially had been suspended for the first four games of the season for violating team rules.

In 15 games with the Irish, Bryant, a 5-foot-10, 205-pounder, ran for 303 yards and three touchdowns on 57 carries.

He enrolled at a junior college in Miami after leaving Notre Dame.
