Oct. 14--Carol Bernick, the former executive chairman and CEO of Alberto-Culver, has paid $1.28 million for a four-bedroom, 4,200-square-foot house behind her longtime home in River Forest.
Bernick, 63, ran the hair-care products company that her father founded. Unilever acquired Alberto-Culver in 2011 for $3.7 billion. Since then, Bernick has chaired the board of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare.
Through a Delaware limited liability company, Bernick bought the two-story house, which had been listed for $1.39 million. Built in 1926 and designed by Burma Brothers Construction, which designed many homes in River Forest in the early 1900s, the house has three full baths, two half baths, hardwood floors, three fireplaces, a marble foyer, a family room with beamed ceilings, a master suite with double closets and a steam shower, and a finished basement with a rec room, an exercise room and a billiards room.
Greer Haseman of Gagliardo Realty Associates represented Bernick in the purchase. She declined to comment. Bernick did not respond to a request for comment.
