June 04--Anthony DeThomas, who was an intern for former U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock, has disclosed that he has been subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury in Springfield.
DeThomas is the eighth House staffer who had worked for Schock to alert House officials about receiving a subpoena.
Schock, 33, a Peoria Republican, is the subject of a federal grand jury investigation over his office and campaign spending. He quit Congress on March 31 after six years in office.
DeThomas was an intern for Schock in 2014 and now works as a legislative correspondent for Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Pa., according to LegiStorm, which tracks congressional data.
The other staffers who worked for Schock and earlier revealed they have been subpoenaed are Dayne LaHood, Shea Ledford, Mark Roman, Sarah Rogers, Kelli Ripp, Bryan Rudolph and Michael Gilmore.
A primary election to fill Schock's seat is planned for July 7 and a special election Sept. 10.
The House rule requires only that current congressional employees who have been subpoenaed in matters relating to official functions of the chamber to notify the House speaker.
