July 06--Chicago's 80-degree temperatures are expected to drop after a round of showers and thunderstorms move into the area late Monday afternoon and night.
Temperatures were expected to reach into the mid-80s before the storms hit, according to the National Weather Service.
A hazardous weather outlook was posted for north central and northeast Illinois, as well as northwest Indiana. The thunderstorms may produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and nickel-size hail. Heavy rainfall and flash flooding is also a possibility, with cloud-to-ground lightning, the weather service said.
The storms are expected to begin near Peru early Monday afternoon and spread across northwest Illinois. The storms could increase across the northern region toward the evening, the weather service said.
Thunderstorms are likely to continue into Tuesday morning but taper off. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 60s by 10 a.m. Tuesday with a 60 percent chance of rain, officials said.
Wednesday night there is a 50 percent chance of rain with temperatures remaining in the low 60s.
