BRIEF: Football: Former Alemany QB Vernon Adams is transferring to Oregon

Feb. 09--After starring at Eastern Washington for three years, former Alemany High quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. is taking his talents to Oregon.

He announced the decision on Monday via Twitter.

Adams is graduating in June and will have one year of eligibility left and be eligible immediately at Oregon, which is looking for a new quarterback starter to replace Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota.

Adams, 5 feet 11, had just two offers coming out of Alemany _ Eastern Washington and Portland State. He had 110 touchdown passes at Eastern Washington.

"Everybody told me he was too short, and I tried to explain to them in a shotgun formation, it's no big deal and he can do special things," Alemany Coach Dean Herrington said.

He led Alemany to the Pac-5 semifinals in 2010.

In two games against Pac-12 opponents Washington and Oregon State, Adams passed for 886 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
