BRIEF: Flurries, cold expected Thursday for Chicago

Nov. 13--Are you ready Chicago?

Flurries are in store for most of the day Thursday, and the first snowflakes began falling as early as Wednesday evening.

The National Weather Service is predicting "unseasonable cold" and off-and-on snow flurries Thursday morning. Highs are expected to reach the upper 20s with winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour.

Heavier flurries are expected for Thursday afternoon, but Chicagoans will not need their shovels, at least on Thursday, said National Weather Service meteorologist Ben Deubelbeiss.

"There could be some dusting, but accumulation is unlikely," Deubelbeiss said.

Forecasts call for some sun and warmer temperatures on Friday, with highs reaching around 30 degrees, but temperatures could reach into the teens Friday night for the surrounding suburbs and the low 20s for downtown.

Saturday evening should see more snow, with about one to two inches expected to fall overnight into Sunday, Deubelbeiss said.

And the cold weather is not expected to relent anytime soon. The cold pattern is expected to continue through at least Thanksgiving, according to the National Weather Service.
