March 11--Floyd Mayweather Jr. won't meet Manny Pacquiao in the ring until May 2, but the hype for the super-fight has already started. And not surprisingly it was Mayweather's father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., who threw the first punch Wednesday in front of Nokia Theatre L.A. Live.
"What do I think about Manny Pacquiao?" Mayweather Sr. said. "To be honest with you, he's just an opponent. Floyd's going to be throwing the punches, not Pacquiao."
Ticket prices and the pay-per-view price are expected to be announced later Wednesday during a news conference. But early indications are access to the broadcast will cost approximately $100.
And Mayweather Sr. spared no expense in trying to make that price appear cheap.
"You're 47-0 and you fought right-handers and you fought left-handers and you whipped" them all, Mayweather Sr. said of his son. "So what problem do you have?"
Mayweather Sr. then ended his impromptu meeting with the media with a poem hailing his unbeaten son: "Floyd is the best, I must confess; all the rest, there's no contest."
