BRIEF: Florida lineman becomes Illinois' 16th commitment in Class of 2016

Oct. 17--Illinois received an oral commitment Friday from lineman Tre Johnson of Orlando, Fla., according to multiple reports.

The 6-foot-7, 280-pound Johnson is rated as a three-star recruit and had offers from Miami, Louisville, Syracuse, Cincinnati and East Carolina, among others. He's the 16th member of the Illini's 2016 recruiting class and the second to commit since Bill Cubit took over as interim coach.

Although Johnson is listed as an offensive tackle prospect by most recruiting services, Scout.com reported the Illini project him as a strong-side defensive end.

"I felt really good about the coaching staff, especially Coach Cubit," Johnson told Scout.com. "He's the kind of guy I want to play for."
