Feb. 02--Flat Top Grill, the Chicago chain offering do-it-yourself Asian-inspired stir fry, has been sold for an undisclosed amount to bd's Mongolian Grill.
Bd's, structured similarly to Flat Top, is based outside Minneapolis. Bd's will take over operations and marketing for both restaurants, but Flat Top will keep its name and current management team.
"We are confident the two concepts can look to each other's strengths and best practices," bd's President and COO Joe Phraner said in a statement.
Flat Top Grill was founded on Chicago's North Side in 1995. Its parent company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2013, but it was later purchased in a bankruptcy auction by an investor group. At the time of its bankruptcy filing, it had 14 locations. It now has just eight, according to its website. The sole remaining Chicago location is at 30 S. Wabash.
