Sept. 18--The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for northeastern and north central Illinois beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop in the afternoon and evening and get stronger through the night, said Jamie Enderlen, a meteorologist for the weather service.
The ground is already soaked from heavy rains this week, and flash floods are likely in some areas overnight, she said.
"The flash flood watch was basically issued for areas that got hit pretty hard last night," Enderlen said.
The heaviest rains likely will fall between 7 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday, Enderlen said, though it probably will rain all night.
The watch applies to northeast and parts of north central Illinois, including Cook, DuPage, Kendall, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties. It begins at 7 p.m. Friday and is expected to expire at 7 a.m. Saturday.
