BRIEF: Flash flood warning expires, more storms expected Tuesday

Aug. 18--More thunderstorms are expected late Tuesday in the Chicago area after about 2 to 4 inches of rain fell during storms Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday morning is expected to be relatively calm, but chances of more storms will increase throughout the afternoon, said meteorologist Ben Deubelbeiss.

The most severe weather likely will hit late Tuesday into early Wednesday, he said.

A Monday evening flash flood warning from the National Weather Service ran from 9:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. for east-central Cook and DuPage counties.

Service on the CTA's Pink Line between the Pulaski and 54th/Cermak stops was expected to resume about 7:30 a.m. after a disruption in service that began after midnight Tuesday because of flooding, according to the transit agency's Twitter account.

Crews worked Monday night to restore power to more than 2,000 customers in Arlington Heights, after a sudden burst of 55-mph winds felled at least 16 trees and forced the closing of some streets on the east side of the village, officials said.
