BRIEF: Five from Naperville North HS taken to hospital after substance released

Oct. 22--Five people were transported to a hospital Thursday morning after a substance like pepper spray was released at Naperville North High School, according to the Naperville Fire Department.

The department received a call at 7:25 a.m. and sent personnel to the school in the 800 block of Mill Street, said George Hyland, the department's community services bureau chief.

Some people were coughing and complained of eye irritation, he said. Fire personnel ventilated the area where the substance was released.

Hyland said no one was suffering from a life-threatening condition.

By about 8:30, the situation had "de-escalated," but fire personnel remained at the school, Hyland said.
