'First Date' will play the Royal George

Dec. 15--The Chicago premiere of the musical "First Date" will arrive in early 2015, a spokesperson for the production announced on Monday.

The comedy about a guy and girl's blind date -- remember those? -- will play the Royal George Theatre in Lincoln Park in a for-profit, Equity production with no set closing date.

The musical is produced by Jeanne McInerney and directed by J.R. Rose, a theater teacher at Homewood-Flossmoor High School and frequent director at Governors State University. The show will play the Royal George's cozy cabaret venue.

"First Date," with music and lyrics by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner and a book by Austin Winsberg, played Broadway's Longacre Theatre for six months in 2013. That production starred Zachary Levi and Krysta Rodriguez.

At the Royal George, Charlie Lubeck and Dana Parker will play Aaron and Casey, respectively. The ensemble includes Cassie Slater, Anne Litchfield Calderon, Shea Coffman, Adam Fane and John Keating.

Musical direction will be by Elizabeth Doran and Becky DeDecker will provide choreography.

"First Date" begins performances Feb. 5 with an opening night slated for Feb. 12. The Royal George Theatre is located at 1641 N. Halsted St. Tickets go onsale Friday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m.
