BRIEF: Firefighters knock down blaze at industrial plastics facility in Glassell Park

Feb. 01--Firefighters on Monday morning knocked down a massive fire at a commercial plastic facility in Glassell Park, officials said.

The blaze started about 5:18 a.m. at Columbia Plastic in the 3000 block of North Fierro Street, an industrial neighborhood along north San Fernando Road, according to Brian Humphrey, a spokesman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

With the fire fueled by combustibles and propane cylinders, about 150 firefighters took a defensive stance against the blaze, Humphrey said, and then were able to extinguish it more than hour later.
