BRIEF: Firefighters rescue worker, knock down house blaze in Burbank

Feb. 25--The roof of a two-story Burbank home collapsed Thursday morning after a fire ripped through its attic, causing extensive damages, officials said.

Firefighters rescued a worker trapped on the roof by heat and smoke before attacking the blaze, which "quickly" erupted through the roof, with flames shooting up 20 feet, said Burbank Fire Capt. Peter Hendrickson.

The homeowner, meanwhile, escaped without injuries before crews arrived at the home, located on the 1000 block of East Angeleno Avenue, around 9:40 a.m.

More than 40 firefighters from Burbank, Glendale and South Pasadena extinguished the fire in 45 minutes.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

While Hendrickson could not immediately provide a damage estimate, he said the damages caused by the fire, as well as by putting out the fire, were widespread.

"The house has got daylight coming through it -- most of the ceilings have been pulled, the whole attic was involved in the fire," he said.

Police closed down the street while utility crews responded to shut off the power, he added.
