BRIEF: Firefighters rescue man from catwalk along Chicago River

May 20--Firefighters rescued a man who was found lying on the catwalk along the Chicago River on Wednesday morning.

Crews were called about 7:35 a.m. to the Jackson Boulevard bridge on reports of a man on the catwalk, officials said.

Fire officials said it was not immediately clear if the man fell or jumped, but crews found him badly injured.

The man was transported to Stroger Hospital Wednesday morning in serious-to-critical condition, officials said.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, appeared to be homeless, and police were trying to determine if he might have fallen, pushed or jumped, police said.
