BRIEF: Firefighters on scene of hazardous material spill on Far South Side

March 28--Chicago Fire Department officials were on the scene of a hazardous material spill that started Sunday afternoon on the Far South Side in the city's South Deering neighborhood.

About 3:40 p.m., a hazardous material Level 1 alarm was called at 12260 S. Carondolet Ave. in the Calumet Industrial Corridor, officials said.

About 5:20 p.m., the alarm was raised to a Level 2. Officials reported a sulfuric acid spill, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

As of 6:42 p.m., the scene was secured and no injuries had been reported.
