BRIEF: Firefighters extinguish 3.2-acre brush fire in Westlake Village

April 30--Firefighters have doused a 3.2-acre brush fire that burned close to homes Thursday in Westlake Village.

The flames appeared about 11:39 a.m. and ran uphill, charring brush and vegetation along East Potrero Road and Pixton Street, near houses in the area, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

More than 80 firefighters worked to put out the blaze and provide protection to homes, the Fire Department said.

Aided by air tankers from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, firefighters extinguished the blaze at 1:08 p.m.

Capt. Mike Lindbery told KTLA-TV the area has burned several times in the last year.

Fire crews were working to put out any additional flames to prevent it from igniting again.

UPDATE

1:39 p.m.: This story was updated to add that the fire was knocked down and to downgrade acreage to 3.2 instead of five.

This story was originally published at 12:22 p.m.
