BRIEF: Fire erupts at Rosemead apartment complex; likely pipe bombs found at scene

Feb. 18--An apartment in a multi-unit complex in Rosemead caught fire about 4 p.m. Tuesday, and investigators found what appeared to be pipe bombs inside, authorities said.

Witnesses reported hearing an explosion before the blaze erupted in the 4200 block of South Walnut Grove Avenue, said Inspector Tony Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

While fighting the blaze, firefighters discovered what may be a few pipe bombs inside the apartment complex, said Lt. Jim Dexter of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The Sheriff's Department bomb squad is en route to the scene.

There are no reports of any victims, but fire crews have evacuated the building and adjacent properties, Dexter said.
