BRIEF: Fire breaks out at South Side grocery store after armed robbery

May 20--A fire broke out at South Side grocery store after two armed robbers fled with cash, police said.

The robbers entered Windy City Supermarket, 7550 S. May St., about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday as the store was closing. They announced a robbery and forced everyone into a back room, police said.

The gunmen took an unknown amount of cash and fled, police said. Those inside left the back room, spotted smoke coming from the store and called the Chicago Fire Department.

Crews arrived at the store and called for a still-and-box alarm. The fire was struck out about 9:45 p.m.

Two people were treated on the scene for injuries not related to the fire, officials said.

Fire and police officials said they were investigating the cause of the fire and could not say if it was related to the robbery.

No one was in custody, police said.
