Oct. 30--The Field Museum will host next week a memorial service for Bill Stanley, the museum mammalogist and frequent spokesperson who died early this month while doing research in Ethiopia.
The event will be at 5 p.m. Friday Nov. 6 at the museum, officials said. "This will be a celebration, a recounting of 'Bill Stories,' and an homage to a man who brought much acclaim to the Museum and touched so many in his exuberant way," says the museum's web notice about the event.
The Field asks that those planning to attend pre-register soon so it can determine the venue to use.
Stanley, 58, died of an apparent heart attack Oct. 6 while on an expedition researching small mammal populations in the east African country. In addition to his ongoing research, he was the museums director of collections, overseeing more than 25 million specimens.
