May 05--In "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," the actual day Ferris, Sloane and Cameron blew off school in search of diversion was June 5, 1985. Last year the 30th anniversary of that day provoked various lookbacks, tributes and the odd hold-it-a-sec. Because, in fact, not everyone loves the John Hughes movie.
But haters gonna hate, as Euripides once said, and now we have the legit 30th anniversary of the release of the Chicago-set and Chicago-shot local favorite.
For the occasion, Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies are bringing back "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" for screenings May 15 and May 18 at South Barrington 30, City North 14, the Naperville 16 and other area theaters.
My colleague Rick Kogan has written about the May 20-22 Ferris Fest here. For those natives and out-of-towners eager to re-create as much of the movie's itinerary as possible, including hotel and airfare plus a baseball game, Art Institute passes and the rest, consider this Groupon contest. And party like it's 1986.
