Nov. 30--Chicago-based charity Feeding America has developed a new online fundraising platform that allows people to turn birthdays or other life events into donation-raising opportunities.
"Set the Table" users can register to create their own pages that accept online contributions, send emails to friends and family, and connect supporters through social media. Users can designate fundraising programs in lieu of gifts for special occasions, as "payment" for services, or as an incentive for completing athletic events.
"Even though the economy is showing signs of improvement, many Americans do not always know where they will find their next meal," Feeding America CEO Diana Aviv said in a statement. "Each dollar raised through Set the Table will help provide 11 meals to people in need."
Feeding America calls itself the country's largest U.S. hunger relief organization.
