BRIEF: FBI seeks woman dubbed 'Uptown Beach Bandit'

Aug. 26--The FBI is asking for the public's help identifying a woman dubbed the "Uptown Beach Bandit" who officials believe carried out several robberies at TCF Bank branches on the North Side.

The bandit's first robbery happened about 1 p.m. Aug. 5 at a TCF bank at 3531 N. Broadway. She entered the bank, approached an employee and demanded money, the FBI said.

The robber struck again Aug. 14 at the TCF Bank branch at 5343 N. Broadway. That time, the robber implied she had a gun. A third robbery happened Saturday at another branch at 4355 N. Sheridan Road, the FBI said.

The bandit is described as a black woman between 30 and 40 years old, between 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall with medium to long dark hair. She was wearing a large floppy straw hat, sunglasses, a green jacket and a tan cardigan or a light gray hoodie during the robberies, the FBI said.

The FBI is offering a reward for information leading to the woman's identification and arrest. Anyone who recognizes her is asked to call the Chicago FBI office at 312-421-6700.
