BRIEF: FBI asks for help in solving Merrillville bank robbery

Feb. 18--The FBI on Wednesday offered a reward for help finding a man who robbed a bank in Merrillville.

The man robbed the Fifth Third Bank branch at 6760 Broadway in the northwest Indiana town about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a release from the FBI office in Merrillville.

The man went into the bank through the back entrance and, using a black handgun, ordered a bank employee to get on the floor, according to the release. The man then robbed the bank of cash and fled on foot, according to the FBI.

The man is described as a clean-shaven black man, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket with light gray shoulders and a hood, blue jeans and tan work or military-style boots.

The FBI asks that anyone with information about the robbery call the FBI's Merrillville office at 219-942-4900 or the Merrillville Police Department at 219-769-3531, ext. 347. The reward offered depends on how much information a tipster is able to provide, according to the FBI.
