Aug. 05--Disney's dancing "Newsies" are returning to Chicago in 2016. Broadway in Chicago said Wednesday that the first national tour of the movie adaptation and unexpected Broadway hit -- now known for its especially enthusiastic young fans -- will return to the Oriental Theatre, 24 W. Randolph St., for an encore engagement next summer.
The "Newsies" will be back in Chicago, selling their papes, from July 28 to Aug. 7, 2016. Single tickets are not yet on sale.
The musical inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899 has a score by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, with a book by Harvey Fierstein. It was last in the Loop over the 2014 holidays when it broke Chicago box office records.
