BRIEF: Ex-USC linebacker Malcolm Smith ready for another Super Bowl moment

Jan. 28--Seattle Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith emerged from last season's Super Bowl victory over the Denver Broncos with the MVP trophy, a truck and a high profile.

But the fourth-year pro is once again in a supporting role heading into Sunday's Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.

Smith, who played at USC, told Dave Boling of The News Tribune that all was well.

"The season's been good; we're in the Super Bowl and I'm blessed to be here," he told Boling during Tuesday's media day.

In last season's Super Bowl, Smith made nine tackles, recovered a fumble and returned an interception 69 yards for a touchdown in the Seahawks' 43-8 victory at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

This season, he started five games but has played mainly on special teams and as a reserve. He has 38 tackles and two forced fumbles.

Smith and his brother Steve, who played receiver at USC and won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants, are one of seven sets of brothers to win Super Bowl championships.

Malcolm Smith said he gave the truck he won as last year's Super Bowl MVP to his mother, Audrey.

"That was a good experience," he told Boling. "She always wanted a truck."
