BRIEF: Evanston police: Boy, 8, hit by CTA train

May 28--An 8-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was hit by a CTA Purple Line train Saturday afternoon while walking along the tracks in north suburban Evanston, police said.

The boy, who suffered a head injury, is listed in critical condition at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, police said.

At 1:07 p.m. officers responded to a report of a juvenile struck by a Chicago Transit Authority train just south of the Dempster Street station, 1318 Sherman Ave., police said.

Police found one boy, eight, who was hit by a southbound train as he and another boy were walking along the tracks. The second boy was not injured in the incident, police said.

A CTA spokeswoman said power was cut off for the purple line at 1:12 p.m. and was later restored at 1:58 p.m.

CTA officials could not immediately confirm if the child was struck by a train.
