BRIEF: Englewood girl, 1, accidentally drowned

Dec. 25--An autopsy Thursday determined a 1-year-old Englewood girl accidentally drowned, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

About 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the home of Alonah Smith, of the 6600 block of South Aberdeen Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood, where they found the girl unresponsive, according to police and the medical examiner's office.

Alonah was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:02 p.m. Wednesday, according to the medical examiner's office.

Area South detectives are conducting a death investigation, according to Chicago police spokesman Thomas Sweeney.

Police did not disclose any further details about the accident.
