BRIEF: 'Empire' star: I didn't think show would be colossal

Nov. 17--If you see "Empire" star Ta'Rhonda Jones at Midway Airport, stay away.

Jones, a rapper-turned-actress who grew up on the South Side, said she re-wears one "lucky" pair of socks when she flies and doesn't wash the socks.

"My feet don't stink, though; it's just the socks," Jones said Tuesday when she filled in as a guest host on the Fox talk show "The Real."

Jones, 27, plays Cookie Lyon's assistant, Porsha Taylor on "Empire." Jones said she realized four weeks after the series premiered in January that the Chicago-filmed show, about a New York hip-hop mogul and his family, would be a hit.

"It just kept skyrocketing. That's when I was like, 'This is serious,'" Jones said. "I didn't think it was going to be colossal-big."

"Empire," which is in its second season, airs Wednesdays on Fox at 8 p.m.
