BRIEF: 'Empire' ratings go up in second week

Jan. 15--It looks like Chicago may have a big hit on its hands.

The second episode of Fox's "Empire" was watched by 10.29 million viewers and earned a 4.0 rating among viewers 18-49 years old Wednesday. To put that in perspective, ABC's Emmy-winning "Modern Family" was watched by 9.35 million viewers and earned a 3.0 rating during that same 8 p.m. time slot.

Most new network shows seem to drop in ratings in the second week, but "Empire's" ratings actually went up slightly. The series premiere of the hip-hop drama was watched by an already impressive 9.9 million viewers and earned a 3.8 rating January 7.

"Empire" -- which stars Oscar nominated actors Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson and Gabourey Sidibe -- is set in New York but filmed in Chicago.

Other TV shows that film in Chicago: NBC's "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago PD," Showtime's "Shameless -- which films its exterior scenes here and was just picked up for a sixth season -- and USA Network's "Sirens."
