Feb. 24--Many of the Chicago Cubs top pitching prospects have arrived for a mini-camp prior to the start of minor league spring training next month.
And there's a good chance that, like their major league teammates, they'll be subjected to drills emphasizing holding base runners.
"All minor league systems should really be in the habit of teaching guys how to do that stuff because it's very hard to teach them here," manager Joe Maddon said.
The Cubs were one of the worst teams at allowing stolen bases last year despite addressing this issue last spring training.
"But it's hard to do if you're in the season," Maddon said. "It's something you got to get on now. Furthermore, it's a minor league kind of issue for me. You have acquisition guys who weren't part of our minor leagues."
Some of the Cubs top prospects scheduled to participate in the minor league mini-camp include Dylan Cease, Carson Sands and Justin Steele.
