BRIEF: Elmhurst police say child luring incidents may be linked

Nov. 03--Elmhurst police have issued a warning after a suspected child luring incident that occurred on Halloween.

About 3:15 p.m. Oct. 31, three children ages 5 through 11 were approached by a man in a vehicle while walking on the sidewalk near Third Street and Clinton Avenue, police said. The man pulled over, began to get out of the vehicle and asked the children if they wanted some candy.

The three ran to a friend's home nearby and went inside, police said.

Elmhurst police said the description of the man and his vehicle are similar to another incident that occurred Oct. 18 at about 5:30 p.m. near Fremont and Ridgeland avenues. Police said while the locations are about 1.5 miles apart, both occurred in residential areas within two blocks of North Avenue.

The man is described as Hispanic, about 40 years old with a medium build, short dark hair and possibly a mustache.

The vehicle was described as an older model white Ford SUV with rust along the bottom of the driver's side door. It was last seen traveling north on Clinton toward North Avenue.

Police ask anyone with information on the man or the vehicle to call 630-530-3050.
