April 19--There were no words with her tweet, but Elena Delle Donne said everything she wanted to say with a dunk.
The Sky forward and WNBA MVP tweeted a 2-second video of herself dunking a basketball on Sunday, a silent back-at-ya to critics who took issue with her proposal to lower the height of the rim in the WNBA.
A Sky spokesperson confirmed Monday that Delle Donne dunked on a regulation 10-foot rim -- the same as NBA height -- and said she published the video in case anyone questioned whether she a had self-serving motivation to campaign for a lower rim.
As of late Monday afternoon, the video had received nearly 1,000 likes and more than 450 retweets.
Last month, Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi summed up her feelings about a lowered rim idea by saying, "Might as well put us in skirts and back in the kitchen."
Delle Donne said she respects Taurasi but found her comments frustrating and degrading to women athletes.
