BRIEF: Electrical fire causes long delays on Union Pacific West line

Feb. 09--An electrical fire caused signal and switching problems on Metra's Union Pacific West line during the morning rush Tuesday, delaying some trains by as much as 80 minutes, according to the agency.

The fire broke out before 6 a.m. in equipment at 25th Avenue, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. No injuries were reported, but trains were stopped for a time and service was restricted to one track, he said.

Delays as long as 65 minutes were reported on inbound trains and one outbound train was delayed around 80 minutes, he said. Delays continued through the morning rush, according to the Metra website. The agency was reporting no substantial delays as of 10 a.m.
