BRIEF: Edward-Elmhurst Health to rely more on U. of C. for pediatric care

Sept. 25--Edward-Elmhurst Health has turned to a well-known academic medical center in Chicago to provide pediatric specialty care at its outpatient clinics.

The health system, with hospitals in Naperville and Elmhurst, said Friday that it will expand its affiliation with University of Chicago Medicine to serve the needs of children in the western suburbs.

Patients will have access to U. of C. physicians who specialize in about a dozen fields, including gastroenterology, rheumatology, sports medicine, cardiology, neurology and sleep medicine.

The agreement builds on an existing relationship. For more than eight years, oncologists at U. of C.'s Comer Children's Hospital have provided advanced care to Edward patients fighting complex childhood cancers.

"Our primary goal is to provide the most comprehensive care possible for newborns and children closer to home," Pam Davis, CEO of Edward-Elmhurst Health, said in a statement.
