BRIEF: Ed Debevic's to leave its Wells Street location, eventually

April 25--Ed Debevic's will leave 640 N. Wells St., its home since 1984, for an undetermined new location "closer to Michigan Avenue."

Spokesman Jeff Himmel announced today that Debevic's, known for its diner food and snarky, wisecracking waiters, would close sometime later this year.

The plan is to keep Ed Debevic's operating on Wells Street until the new location is chosen and ready to open, but no timeline has been announced.

Crain's Chicago Business reports that the Wells Street property has been sold to a developer.

"We invite our fans to join us in our final days at the corner of Wells and Ontario," Himmel said via press release.

So if your fond memories of Ed Debevic's are linked to this particular piece of real estate, you have an indeterminate number of days to revisit before being forced to experience Debevic's at an as-yet-unselected location that will open who-knows-when but probably will be pretty close by.
