BRIEF: DuSable Museum gets Smithsonian tie

March 24--The DuSable Museum of African American History is now formally affiliated with the Smithsonian Institutions in Washington, D.C., the Chicago museum announced Wednesday.

The new Smithsonian Affiliatie status will increase cooperation between the institutions, giving DuSable access to Smithsonian artifacts and traveling exhibits, while the Smithsonian may access the DuSable's collection as well, the museum said.

"With Affiliate status, the DuSable will bring the Smithsonian to the community and the DuSable to the world," said DuSable President and CEO Perri Irmer in a statement. "The partnership will also expose the museum's Masterworks Collection to a broader audience by giving the work and the artists international exposure."

DuSable will be able to offer its members Smithsonian membership at a discount as well as reciprocal admission to other Smithsonian Affiliates. The only other one in Chicago is Adler Planetarium, while the Illinois list includes institutions in Elmhurst, Peoria and Champaign.
