BRIEF: Ducks' signings include Chris Wagner, free-agent defenseman Shane O'Brien

July 17--The Ducks on Thursday signed free-agent defenseman Shane O'Brien, retained centers Chris Wagner and Michael Sgarbossa with one-year deals and signed their second-round draft pick Julius Nattinen, a center.

O'Brien, 31, has played in 537 NHL games after starting his career with the Ducks in the 2006-07 season. At 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, O'Brien has played with six other teams and has 13 goals and 92 points in his career with 916 penalty minutes.

He'll earn $600,000 in the NHL in the two-way contract and will be paid at a rate of $125,000 if he's sent to the Ducks' minor league affiliate in San Diego.

Wagner played in nine regular-season games and two playoff games with the Ducks last season, and Sgarbossa was acquired by Anaheim at the NHL trade deadline in March. Wagner's two-way deal is for $600,000/$75,000, while Sgarbossa will earn $605,000/$55,000.

Nattinen, 18, was signed to a three-year entry-level contract.
