BRIEF: Ducks sign former New York Rangers forward Carl Hagelin

Aug. 14--Carl Hagelin is viewed by the Ducks as a missing piece to finishing their work and winning a Stanley Cup title.

On Friday, they signed him to a four-year, $16-million contract through the 2018-19 season.

Hagelin, a speedy left wing expected to play aside second-line center Ryan Kesler, is a skilled penalty killer who had 17 goals and 35 assists for the New York Rangers last season. He helped the Rangers reach the postseason for the last four seasons, including their 2013-14 appearance in the Stanley Cup Final against the Kings.

Hagelin turns 27 on Aug. 23. He had a plus-57 rating in 266 games with the Rangers, who acquired younger forward Emerson Etem and a second-round draft pick for Hagelin and two picks.
