Aug. 07--The Ducks locked up a young player Friday who's shown he produces in big moments when they retained restricted free-agent forward Jakob Silfverberg with a four-year, $15-million contract through the 2018-19 season.
Silfverberg, who'll turn 25 on Oct. 13, led the NHL with nine shootout goals, and his 60.9% career efficiency is the best among active players with at least 15 attempts.
In his second season as a Duck following the trade of right wing Bobby Ryan to Ottawa, Silfverberg complemented his strong regular-season defensive showing with four goals and 18 points in 16 playoff games.
The Pacific Division-champion Ducks were eliminated by the Stanley Cup-champion Chicago Blackhawks in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals.
Silfverberg's 14 playoff assists ranked third in the postseason. He typically played on the Ducks' second line with center Ryan Kesler, who earlier this summer received a contract extension.
In 181 career NHL games, Silfverberg has a plus-26 rating. He had 13 goals and 39 points during the regular season.
