BRIEF: Ducks' Corey Perry injured; Emerson Etem diagnosed with mumps

Dec. 06--REPORTING FROM ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Ducks right wing Corey Perry was injured Friday during the first period of the team's game against the Wild at the Xcel Energy Center and did not return for the second period.

A team spokesman said Perry's return was doubtful.

Perry was on the receiving end of a hard hip check from Minnesota defenseman Keith Ballard, a hit that upended Perry near the boards. Perry appeared to be in distress and was favoring his left knee or leg as he was helped off the ice and to the locker room.

Entering the game, Perry led the Ducks in goals, with 14, and ranked second in points, with 22.

Separately, the Ducks said forward Emerson Etem had been diagnosed with mumps but was improving. Etem had been assigned to the Ducks' American Hockey League affiliate in Norfolk, Va., on Nov. 24. He missed three games there.

Etem was the fourth Ducks player diagnosed with mumps, following Perry, Francois Beauchemin and Clayton Stoner.
