BRIEF: Dry ice bomb explodes at Menifee High School; 2 students arrested

March 14--Two students from Menifee High School were arrested Friday on suspicion of detonating a dry ice bomb at the school.

The incident occurred about 9:15 a.m. The school was put on lockdown after the explosion inside one of the students' lockers, according to a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

No one was injured, officials said.

The male students, both juveniles, were taken into custody after investigators determined an explosive device made from dry ice had exploded, the statement said.

It is a felony to make or possess such devices, officials said.

One of the students was booked into the Southwest Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of possessing a destructive device on school grounds and exploding a destructive device on school grounds, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The other suspect was released to his parents and will be charged with conspiracy, the statement said.
