BRIEF: Driver killed in fiery crash in Beverly Hills

June 15--A driver was killed early Monday after a vehicle crashed into a center divider and burst into flames in a Beverly Hills neighborhood.

The driver, who has not been identified, was found dead inside the fiery vehicle, Beverly Hills police Sgt. David Tomlin said.

The crash occurred about 2:30 a.m. at Gregory Way and La Cienega Boulevard, he said.

It is unclear what type of vehicle was involved in the crash. KTLA-TV reported that it was a Mercedes-Benz.

Police don't know why the driver crashed or whether speed was a factor in the collision.

Investigators don't believe the driver was the victim of a hit-and-run, Tomlin said. Detectives are still trying to determine if any other drivers were involved in the crash.

La Cienega Boulevard was closed for several hours between Wilshire and Beverly boulevards but has been reopened.
