Feb. 18--A 52-year-old woman was hospitalized and a horse was euthanized following a collision Wednesday in McHenry County between the woman's vehicle and the animal, which had gotten loose from a local farm, police said.
The woman, who lives in Marengo, was flown by helicopter to OFS St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where she was said to be stable, according to a news release from the McHenry County sheriff's office. Details about the injuries she suffered were not provided.
The woman was driving at 2002 Honda CR-V east on U.S. Highway 20 near Coral Road in Coral Township about 6:15 p.m. when the vehicle struck one of two horses that had gotten loose from the farm, according to the sheriff's office.
The owner of the horse arranged for it to be euthanized at the scene because of injuries it suffered.
Police said the woman was wearing a seat belt and her front air bag deployed. Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
An investigation by the sheriff's office is continuing. Members of the Marengo Fire Protection District, Union Fire Protection District and Illinois Department of Transportation also responded to the crash.
