BRIEF: Driver cited in fatal Naperville crash that killed woman, dog

Nov. 14--A Plainfield man has been cited in a crash that killed a 22-year-old Naperville woman and her dog.

Kenneth E. Holmberg, 74, was cited for disobeying a traffic control signal and failure to exercise due care, according to Naperville police. He could not immediately be reached for comment.

Family members of Emily S. Driscoll, who died in the crash, said through their attorney Friday they are "disappointed" in the citations.

"The family believes Emily's life is worth more than a simple traffic ticket," attorney G. Grant Dixon III said in a news release.

Holmberg was driving east on Rickert Road in Naperville about 8:15 p.m. Sunday when he struck Driscoll, who was walking her greyhound, Quincy, across the intersection of Book Road, police said. Driscoll and her dog died in the crash.

Longtime boyfriend Niko Vanscoit has said Driscoll loved animals and adventure. She was a 2010 graduate of Waubonsie Valley High School and also had earned a certificate in surgical technology from the College of DuPage.
