BRIEF: Drink this: Lazzy Fair, 'beach in a glass' at Kings County Tap

July 24--The Lazzy Fair: When Chicago turns into a summer beach town, this drink perfectly matches the sandy, flip-flop vibe. Find it at Kings County Tap, recently opened in the old Etno Village Grill space and bringing with it Jan Henrichsen, drinks master for Found and Fat Rice. The restaurant's name is a nod to the Brooklyn county, and inspiration shows in exposed brick and industrial design, but sit in the patio for the Lazzy Fair ($14), which a waitress assured us is "beach in a glass."

That doesn't mean too sweet; Henrichsen said she wanted to create something layered in flavor, but also pretty in a fancy glass. Indeed, the powerfully orange drink arrives in a curvy container reminiscent of lazy vacation days, but the initial sweetness of passion fruit is nicely tempered by the mix of booze involved, which includes Castarede Armagnac Blanche (a rounder cousin of Cognac), El Dorado White Rum, housemade grenadine and an absinthe rinse. Bitter Sling's Denman bitters balance, and crushed ice completes the summer feel. The Lazzy Fair will bestow a beachy buzz. 2576 North Lincoln Ave., 773-697-7661, www.kingscountytap.com
